Privacy Policy

Project CARE is a companion app for people going through a hospital visit — patients, families and carers. It offers a gentle check-in, breathing exercises, plain explanations of what usually happens next, and a private place to keep notes and a journal.
This policy explains exactly what the app stores, where it goes, and how you remove it. It is written to be read, not to be skimmed past.
Project CARE is not a medical service. It does not diagnose, interpret test results, or replace advice from your healthcare team. Nothing you write in it is seen or monitored by a clinician.
If you use the app as a guest
You can use every part of Project CARE without making an account, by choosing Continue as guest.
In guest mode nothing you write ever leaves your device. Your notes, journal, check-ins and breathing history are stored only in the app's own storage on your phone. We cannot see them, and they are not sent to any server. If you delete the app, they are gone.
If you create an account
An account lets your records follow you to another device and survive reinstalling the app. To do that, they are stored in Google Firebase, which we use as our service provider.
What is stored about you:
- Your email address, or — if you sign in with Google — the account identifier Google gives us
- The name you type during setup
- Whether you described yourself as a patient, a carer or a visitor
- The language you chose
What is stored of what you write:
- Notes you save — their title, body and date
- Journal entries — the prompt, what you wrote, the mood you picked and the date
- Check-ins — how overwhelmed, clear and supported you felt, the one line you wrote about what is worrying you, and the date. Only your 30 most recent check-ins are kept
- Questions you saved for your doctor
- A count of the breathing cycles you completed
This is health information, and we treat it that way
A journal entry about being frightened before surgery, or a check-in recording that you feel overwhelmed, is sensitive personal information about your health. We do not sell it, share it, use it for advertising, or analyse it to build a profile of you.
Who can see it
Only you. Your records are stored under your own account and our security rules reject any request for them that does not come from your signed-in account. Other people using Project CARE cannot reach them. We do not read them.
The app contains no advertising, no analytics and no third-party tracking of any kind. Nothing you write is sent anywhere except the storage that holds your own account.
Your data on the device
So the app keeps working in a hospital basement or anywhere else with no signal, a copy of your records is kept on your phone and syncs when you are back online. When you sign out, that local copy is cleared — which matters if you are using a shared device such as a ward tablet.
How your information travels and where it rests
All traffic between the app and our storage is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. Your records are held on Google Firebase infrastructure. Google acts as our processor: they store the data on our behalf and do not use it for their own purposes.
If you sign in with Google, Google's own privacy policy also applies to that sign-in: policies.google.com/privacy.
How long we keep it
Until you remove it. We do not expire your records or delete them for inactivity. Check-ins are the one exception: the app keeps only your 30 most recent ones and discards older ones automatically.
What you can do, inside the app
- Export a copy — Account & privacy → back up your data
- Erase what you have written — Account & privacy → erase private data. This removes your notes, journal, check-ins, saved questions and breathing history from your account and from your devices, and keeps the account itself
- Delete your account entirely — Account & privacy → delete account. This erases everything above and closes the account. It cannot be undone
- Sign out — clears the copy held on that device
If you cannot reach the app for any reason, email us at [YOUR CONTACT EMAIL] and we will delete your account and everything in it.
Children
Project CARE is intended for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be announced in the app.
